‘Meet the makers’ – Heath Nash

As part of the Creative Week Cape Town, one of the creatives who shared his workspace and process in the ‘Meet the makers’ studio tour series was Heath Nash. Since showing his work at the first Design Indaba Expo in 2004, Heath has come a long way, and now his iconic light fittings are sold all around the world. Heath shares his story of how he developed his range, what his work process is and where he would like to go from here.

Blank Projects

IWL met up with Jonathan Garnham who runs the Blank Projects gallery in Woodstock. A dapper Jonathan on crutches greets me at the door but quickly assures me that he is recovering well, so after a quick tour around the setup for the exhibition tonight, we get straight into it.

In the studio with Brett Murray

There is something about Brett Murray’s work that makes me smile (for a long time), and then it makes me think. His work is at first bright and fun, making use of familiar or nostalgic icons - pop art really – but the longer you look at it, the more you find. His sense of humour makes his commentary on current affairs most effective – a sort of Trojan horse effect if you will. ILW went to visit this established artist in his Woodstock studio to see where the parody and the magic starts.
